Processing Project - Game of Life

Yi Xie

50 × 50 Grid

Rule

  1. Any live cell with fewer than two live neighbours dies, as if by underpopulation.

  2. Any live cell with two or three live neighbours lives on to the next generation.

  3. Any live cell with more than three live neighbours dies, as if by overpopulation.

  4. Any dead cell with exactly three live neighbours becomes a live cell, as if by reproduction.

Thoughts

I think the grid represents the size of the habitat. When I changed from 640 x 320 to 1920 x 1920, it seems like it didn’t any difference. The population seems to be positively increased with the increase of the size of the habitat. After I changed it to 50x50, the lives died very fast. It shows that lives need a certain space to keep existing.

Game of Study

Rule

  1. If there are 1 or 2 people study together, they will distract me so I can’t study.

  2. If there are 3 or 4 people study as a group, we will help together so I will keep study.

  3. If there are more than 4 people study around me, I will party with them.

  4. If there are no people studying around me, I will start to study.

Thoughts

The whole environment became very active. I think it’s because the last rule I set “If there are no people studying around me, I will start to study.” This rule made most of the “cells” actively switching between live and die.

Data as a Design Material

Thoughts

I changed the size of the cells smaller. I can see more details of the background videos, which means the perception of the info become much easier. However I think with smaller cells the movement of the object in the background video become less easier to be shown.
